The ebook market has grown. Many publishers have added the digital format to their catalogue, in addition to the paperback and dust jacket of before. The fact is that the world is changing, and fast. And when technology is involved, it changes at an unthinkable speed. A digital version represents a cost-effective solution for a reader buyer . How much is this consideration worth in a period like the one we are experiencing? Reading changes as technology changes . We read differently today. In the sense that other needs are felt, forcefully introduced by the market.
There are words like podcast, kindle, audiobook, video courses, etc. Words that can relegate a publisher to a dark and forgotten alley. Digital publishing must be seen from a 360° perspective, exploiting – and offering – everything that the market makes available. Social media Special Data Many abhor them, yet most people – and readers – use them. Social media must be seen as a means of sharing and dissemination. As a way to establish a dialogue with one's readers, a dialogue that must be started by publishers and writers. Twitter : taking advantage of brevity, it is a channel that I am finding very useful and fun both for sharing my articles and for seeking information.
I discovered writers and editors, some of them very active. Facebook : has become synonymous with waste of time, entertainment. No problem, just adapt to the environment. The publishing house will behave accordingly, speaking to readers in a more direct, informal way. It will be their entertainment. It's also sold that way. Google+ : it is the latest addition and I have still seen very few presences on it, especially Italian ones. It's a sort of Facebook without the fun. A more serious social platform. Today it is possible to create your own business page on Google+. I wonder what Italian publishers and writers are waiting for.
